Transform How You Think About Yourself

Having self-confidence is essential whether you are applying for a new job, seeking a promotion or aiming for more success in your current role. Use these tips as a guide to acquiring and sustaining a new level of confidence that helps you be a winner throughout your career.

1. Decide what you want

When you set personal goals you gain more focus and find a new sense of purpose. Whether it’s something you want to achieve today or next year, make up your mind and go for it. The rest of the world can get out of the way.

2. Learn new skills

Every skill that’s relevant to you career makes you a stronger job candidate or promotion prospect. Also, knowing you are capable and proficient is sure to give your self-esteem a boost.

3. Be prepared

Preparation helps you avoid those little stumbles that undermine your confidence when you need it most. Fortunately, it is usually as straightforward as keeping your CV up- to-date, preparing for interviews well in advance and allowing for extra time in traffic on rainy days.

4. Get fitter and healthier

Great things can happen when you lose weight, give up smoking or take other steps to improve your fitness and health. You feel better, and have more energy and enthusiasm to help you face the world. If it has been a while since you exercised seriously, please talk to your doctor first.

5. Smarten up

Personal grooming and presentation reflect the inner you. It may be time for a complete makeover, or perhaps all you need is a new suit and a visit to the hairdresser. Look at what successful people wear, then look in your wardrobe. A new image goes hand-in-hand with new confidence.

6. Socialise

With a more balanced life comes contact with a wider range of people, exposure to fresh ideas and a regular change of pace away from the daily grind. When you have a life outside work, you become a more complete and interesting person. You can feel the difference.

7. Live a good life

Always do the right thing, be honest, consider others and admit your mistakes. You sleep better at night and never have to worry about what you said, or to whom. Personal integrity makes a powerful contribution to your confidence. Others respect you more too.

8. Stop wishing you were somebody else

The reason movie stars earn millions is that very few people have movie-star looks. Training courses and educational institutions exist because we all have something to learn. There is a message there. Nobody expects you to be perfect or know everything. Learn to accept yourself.

9. Let go of the past

If you have regrets about what you could or should have done in the past, try to let them go. Look around you for today’s and tomorrow’s opportunities. Reflect on the skills and knowledge that life has given you. You have more reasons to feel confident than you think.

10. Talk and think yourself into it

The way you talk affects the way you think. The way you think affects the way you act. Drop those negative, doubtful words from your vocabulary. No more thinking that increased confidence is a distant future possibility. You are more confident right now. Believe it.
