Migration for Business People
Australia’s Migration Program allocates a significant number of places to migrants with demonstrated business acumen. As a Business Migrant, you don’t need a trade or professional qualification. Instead, you’ll be assessed on previous business ownership, experience in executive management roles, your business talent and your intention to invest in Australia.
Australia Needs Business Professionals
Australia recognises entrepreneurship and business talent as a contributing factor towards economic growth. If you have owned a successful business, or demonstrated business talent, or have proven executive experience, you may qualify as a Business Migrant.
In addition to business management skills, a Business Migrant must also prove they have sufficient financial resources available to invest in business activities within Australia.
It is important to note that self-employed tradespeople will not necessarily qualify as Business Migrants. Self-employed tradespeople may need to apply for a Visa as a Skilled Migrant. For example, an electrician who has owned and operated their own business as a sole trader would not qualify as a Business Migrant. If, however, the electrician has run a successful business and managed hired staff, it may be possible to qualify as a Business Migrant.
Living in Australia
As a Business Migrant, you will be granted a temporary visa for an initial four years. Permanent residency may be applied for after holding the temporary residence visa for at least two years, if your Australian business activities are assessed as successful.
Your lifestyle in Australia may be affected by the type of visa you are granted. For example, your Visa conditions will specify differences in where you may live.
The Australian Government requires all Business Migrants to acknowledge and agree to uphold an Australian Values Statement pertaining to living in Australia, Australian lifestyle and customs.
Working in Australia
As a Business Migrant, you are expected to start a new business, or develop an existing Australian business through work and/or financial investment. In addition, Business Migrant visas will specify a set of obligations which you must meet while working in Australia.
