In Australia, coal seam gas is more common where gas is trapped in coal seams. Either way, the process of 'mining' the gas is the same.

Every day we have jobseekers contact us about how to get started in mining jobs or how to find the first job on an offshore rig. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult for people with no experience to break into mining or energy jobs. At the very least, you will need to have qualifications relevant to the resources industry along with proven experience. These jobs are very competitive and there’s a large pool of people with no skills or site experience who are competing with you for a handful of entry-level roles.

The Connecting Aboriginal People to Mining program aims to train Aboriginal jobseekers in South Australia for jobs in the mining industry. More than $700,000 is available from a joint state and federal government program with applications now open. Tom Kenyon, Employment, Higher Education and Skills Minister is looking for mining companies and RTOs (registered training organisations) to participate in the Connecting Aboriginal People to Mining program.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has reformed the 476 visa scheme resulting in a 900% increase in the number of overseas graduates eligible to work in Australia.
The 476 visa is designed for engineering graduates who obtained a tertiary engineering degree to live and work in Australia for up to 18 months. Applicants have to be younger than 31 years of age

The annual Housing Industry Association-Cordell Construction 100 provides data on the largest 100 companies working in engineering construction and non-residential building sectors. The project recognises and encourages the need for creativity and innovation towards health and safety problems in the workplace.
