AWRA launched a new e-mentoring program in Australia this week to support the career development of women working in the resources industry. Supported by the National Resources Sector Workforce Strategy, the online mentoring program is available to women in the early stages of their careers. Employees in the all sectors of the resources industry are encouraged to participate including those in oil and gas, energy, allied construction and mining jobs.

The landmark Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 passed through the Australian parliament last Thursday night. The new act supports equal pay for women and encourages great female participation in the workforce. Both points have been part of the AWRA agenda which addresses the gender equality subject in the Australian resources industry.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions in our social networks about the viability of the resources industry and how it impacts job availability. There’s a growing concern among jobseekers about the many negative stories in the press saying the boom is over. It would be easy to assume the industry is on the verge of collapse. Nothing could be further from the truth.
