These awards are designed to recognise outstanding achievement by third and fourth year apprentices who have shown initiative in the development of a highly successful career in the plumbing and gasfitting industry. MPGA encourages any apprentice who has done well in any area of their apprenticeship to apply.

A new study sponsored by the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) and conducted by the highly respected National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) shows the mining industry has made a significant investment in training workers for mining jobs. In fact, the vast majority of mining training for financial year ending 30 June 2012 has been conducted by the industry with over $1.1 billion spent compared to a $26 million contribution by government training subsidies.

A new report from the Australian Industry Group found employers are experiencing difficulty finding employees with the appropriate skills. The Lifting our Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills report surveyed 500 businesses in across multiple sectors of the economy and found sobering evidence to suggest Australia will fall behind competitively because we won’t be able to meet production and innovation requirements.
