The 2015 AMMA Resource People National Conference

Posted: 14/04/2015 5:00:00 AM by Mining Oil and Gas Jobs

Since its inception miningoilandgasjobs.com has been actively promoting the role of women in the mining industry

We are now proud to announce that at our annual conference, The 2015 AMMA Resource People National Conference two leading keynote speakers set to present have been named among The Australian newspaper’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, with Transfield’s Diane Smith-Gander taking sixth place and Toro Energy’s Vanessa Guthrie coming in at 45.

The 2015 AMMA Resource People National Conference brings together top executives, influencers and professionals from across the mining, oil and gas sectors. This year, delegates will have the opportunity to hear from two of Australia’s most powerful women in business as ranked by national newspaper, The Australian.

Diane Smith-Gander – Transfield Services                                     Vanessa Guthrie – Toro Energy

DIANE SMITH-GANDER, TRANSFIELD     SERVICES

Diane Smith-Gander, chair of mining services group Transfield Services, earned sixth place in the prestigious list. Mine asset management and construction firm Transfield employs more than 19,000 people globally including contracts servicing Woodside’s offshore gas projects and various mines in Australia, Chile and the United States.

One year into her role as chair of Transfield’s Board, Ms Gander-Smith has seen the company thrive and exceed $3 billion in annual revenue. She has also emerged as an inspiration for women in senior business leadership roles as well as gender diversity in Australia’s resource industry more specifically.

By securing your place at this year’s AMMA Resource People National Conference, you can hear her speak on Transfield’s ‘people engagement’ strategies and leadership vision during this critical period for contractors in Australia’s resource sector.

She will also discuss imperatives across the resource industry to address gender diversity and lift women’s participation in the mining, oil and gas workforce.

VANESSA GUTHRIE, TORO ENERGY

Entering The Australian’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business list at number 45 was Vanessa Guthrie, chief executive of uranium miner Toro Energy.

Dr Guthrie has forged an impressive 25-year resources career with companies including Pasminco, Western Mining Services and Woodside. At one stage, while overseeing the Alcoa Huntly bauxite mine in Dwellingup, south of Perth, she held the title of Western Australia’s first female mine manager.

Today, Dr Guthrie is managing director/CEO of ASX listed uranium-focused explorer and project developer, Toro Energy Limited. In this role, she is responsible for managing multiple projects including bringing the proposed A$269 million flagship Wiluna project to final investment decision and into construction to deliver Toro’s maiden uranium product.

Having been recognised both in Australia and globally as one of the most outstanding professional women in the resource industry, Dr Guthrie will be a popular speaker at the upcoming 2015 AMMA Resource People National Conference.

With uranium exports again on the agenda, the nuclear energy debate reignited in recent months and a royal commission now underway in South Australia, she will speak on future prospects and workforce opportunities for this emerging sector in Australia.
