Today in a media interview the miningoilandgasjobs.com mining spokesperson Laura Gunnis announced that Watpac has won an $80 million contract to deliver mining services at Han King Gold’s new Axe Handle mine.
Gunnis commented that this follows the successful contract acquisition in August 2014, where Watpac was awarded a $29 million contract to provide mining services for Han King Gold's Cornishman Pit.
Gunnis added
“This is good news for employment in Western Australia as the mine is part of Han King’s Southern Cross Gold operations, located near Yilgarn in Western Australia.”
Watpac will be responsible for the removal and stockpiling of topsoil, bulk excavation of overburden and ore using equipment sourced from its own fleet. The work will create 100 positions at the mine.
The managing director of Watpac, Martin Munro, said
“The new contract was the result of the company’s focus on enhancing relationships with key clients.” Martin Munro added
“Over the last 12 months, we have focused on quality outcomes for our civil and mining clients and this strategy has shown that a strong focus on relationships, local networks and operational excellence are valued despite a challenging market condition.”
